  Homemade ginger drink

What you need - lemon, ginger and honey

The sliced pieces of ginger left 10-20 minutes in boiled water.

If you have had enough of drinking coffee or tea, here's a drink that you can easily prepare for yourself. It can even help to soothe your sore throat and to make your cold less of an agony (as you know once you have caught a cold you just have to bear with it and let it take its course). Or perhaps you can start taking this drink at the first sign of a coming cold or sore throat hoping to stop it in its path. Of course you can also take it when you are in the pink of health!

The finished product - a delicious ginger drink made by, and for, yourself!
I had heard about this drink some time back but didn't try it out until recently when I had a cold and sore throat - and it sure did help! As you have to drink a lot when you have a cold or a sore throat, you might as well make one liter so you have it for the whole day (yes one big cup or glass in the morning, afternoon and at night!). Pour l litre of water in the casserole to boil, then start cutting your ginger into fine, thin slices. When finished, put the ginger slices into the casserole. When the water starts to boil remove the casserole (or the water will all evaporate, hehe) and leave the ginger in the boiled water for 10-20 minutes to get out the full aroma of the ginger before adding honey and squeezing some lemon juice to it. Remove and throw away the slices of ginger. Pour yourself a glass immediately! If you prefer to drink it hot later on, pour the rest in a thermos (vacuum flask). Not too much work really, is it, seeing that you have to stay at home the whole day because of your cold.
There is no hard and fast rule as to how much ginger, lemon juice or honey you should put in as it is all a question of taste though it would be preferable not to put too much of ginger at the beginning, just to be on the safe side. But unlike salt, it's perfectly all right if you put in more of lemon juice or honey rather than less. Putting too much of ginger though, might make the drink much too strong for some people, but then this could be just what your sore throat needs!
